Italian newspaper readership collapses

After two years of growth (2010-2012), Italian readership dropped in the second half of 2012 and the first three months of 2013.

Sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport is still the best-read paper with 3.7 million readers (meaning more than 10 readers per newspaper copy). One year ago readership, however, was 4.4 million.

Sports paper Corriere dello Sport is the fourth paper with 1.7 million readers, Tuttosport (not in graph) is the 10th paper with almost a million readers. Both papers showed a small loss compared to the same period last year.

La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera both have 2.8 million readers, coming down from 3.5 million a year ago. La Stampa (fifth) saw readership drop from 2.3 to 1.4 million.

Free dailies Metro and Leggo are nr. 8 and 9 with 1.2 and 1.1 million readers. in 2008 Metro had 1.9 million readers, Leggo 2.3 million. (data from Audipress)
